Having satisfied this criteria and successfully tendered the project, Mach-Aire produced a prototype, and carried out extensive testing prior to production of 100 units and installation.
Each 3600mm wide double cabinet had twin horizontal sliding sashes fitted, with access between each chamber to allow storage of dual use equipment. The units were designed to operate with a varying air volume energy save system and to achieve excellent containment levels at all sash openings.

Mach-Aire was selected by AstraZeneca to provide Fume Cupboards and Downflow Units for their Large Scale Facility in Macclesfield, utilising the Alliance concept of project delivery.
As a member of the Alliance team, we were able to assess the needs of the client, equipment users and all our Alliance partners, during the design phase. Careful consideration was given to the operation and integration within the building of all the equipment, ensuring a smooth running construction phase and timely handover to the client.

The project comprised the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of:
- 3metre wide 100litre large reactor booths
- 3metre wide 100litre downflow reactor booths
- Special tray drier cabinets
- Sink cupboards
- Dispensing cabinets
- Ranges of standard fume cabinets
A total of 48 units were manufactured, some having fully welded stainless steel chambers. All factory acceptance testing was carried out and completed in line with the current BS7258 with additional lactose testing of downflow units by AstraZeneca.
(In the words of AstraZeneca) "The Large Scale Laboratory has been a successful venture between Alliance Partners, to deliver a state of the art facility".
